Cricket grapher.cgi development wiki
Cricket developers may be interested to know there is a wiki to keep track of suggestions and ideas on how to bring grapher.cgi into it’s next incarnation.
Everyone who uses the Cricket grapher.cgi script knows it is getting long in the tooth. Sabertooth long. Some may throw in the towel and move to spiffy web interfaces such as Cacti or Torrus, but Cricket’s grapher still has lots of value. In case some of you needed reminding:
- It is fast with speedy.cgi or mod_perl!
- Easy to integrate with existing tools or front-ends, as it is perl and html
- Information can be intuitively browsed to find and review data for historical or operational uses
- Did I say fast, hell yes, anyone doing first or second level support during a crisis can use this tool to quickly validate network and system states.
After having used so called best of breed systems with SQL database back-ends, it is easy to appreciate tools that do not require getting a cup of coffee at every data request.
